A Springfield favorite got a new name — and a new bar — Saturday night, as Uptown Kitchen & Bar lit its burners for the first time during a private soft opening to celebrate its full-service bar, name change, and new menu.
The restaurant, located at 1303 N Main St., had kicked around the idea of adding a bar for months as well as dropping the word “Market” from its name. Years ago, the site had served as a market and deli.
The private soft opening was packed with friends, family and food bloggers as they sipped cocktails, wine, local craft beer and sampled food from chef Eddy Escriba’s new menu.
The restaurant is one of many popular eateries owned by the Gallery Restaurant Group, which includes partners Shawn Lednick, Paul Shockey, Marco Monroy, Tony Allegretti and John Valentino, the owner of several Mellow Mushroom restaurants in the Jacksonville area.
The group owns Burrito Gallery downtown and Burrito Gallery Express in Jacksonville Beach. Valentino and Lednick plan to open a third location with a rooftop bar at Brooklyn Station on Riverside Avenue.
The restaurant’s hours will be 7 a.m. – 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 9 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. Sunday.
